The Southern Ohio Alzheimer’s Chapter hosted its annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s yesterday morning on the campus of Shawnee State University, bringing together families, caregivers, advocates, and supporters for one of the region’s most meaningful community events. Held each year toward the end of September, the walk unites the community in a shared mission: to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and to raise critical funds for research, support, and outreach.
Every year, hundreds of participants take part in the walk, helping the Southern Ohio Alzheimer’s Chapter raise tens of thousands of dollars to support local services and nationwide research initiatives. Many walked in memory of loved ones, others walked alongside family members facing the disease today, and countless participants came simply to help strengthen the fight against Alzheimer’s.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is part of a national movement that takes place in communities across the United States. Funds raised through these walks help the Alzheimer’s Association continue its vital mission—fueling groundbreaking research, expanding education programs, and strengthening early-stage support for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. These resources play an essential role in helping families navigate the challenges of the disease with better tools, more knowledge, and a stronger support network.
Recent research advancements—supported in part by nationwide fundraising—include the approval of Leqembi, a treatment shown to help slow the progression of early-stage Alzheimer’s. This milestone demonstrates the real impact community events can make, turning hope into meaningful scientific progress. Every dollar raised and every step walked helps bring researchers closer to improved treatments and, ultimately, to the cure families have long hoped for.

With every mile, every story, and every dollar raised, we move closer to a cure.
As the walk concluded, participants gathered to reflect, share stories, and celebrate the collective impact their efforts continue to make year after year. The sense of unity, remembrance, and determination was unmistakable—a powerful reminder that when communities come together, hope grows stronger.
